What Is Invisalign and Is It Right for YouInvisalign is an alternative form of orthodontic cosmetic treatment adults, teens, and tweens can use when they have crooked teeth or gaps in between teeth they want to eliminate, yet have concerns over getting traditional bracket-style braces installed over their teeth. Unlike traditional bracket-style braces, Invisalign requires using a set of clear, custom-made plastic inserts which are worn over the teeth, except when brushing, flossing, drinking, or eating.

How Does Invisalign Straighten My Teeth?

Invisalign treatment consists of wearing the clear plastic inserts and replacing these every two weeks for a new set. Your Brampton dentist will custom design the inserts for your mouth and teeth. Every time a new set is replaced, there are slight differences between them as they slowly shift the teeth to the desired results.

Is There a Difference in Treatment Times Between Braces and Invisalign?

The actual treatment time with either orthodontic appliance is about the same. In tweens and teens, the average treatment time with braces or Invisalign is about two years. In adults, treatment time averages about a year. Keep in mind you actual treatment time depends on your cosmetic dental objectives.

Are There Any Benefits of Using Invisalign over Braces?

One of the primary benefits people enjoy is not having to worry about others noticing they are straightening their teeth. In tweens and teens, this can be extremely important because they are very conscientious of their appearance and how others perceive them. In addition, it can be easier to keep the teeth clean because you are not having to try brush around or get in between the metal brackets found on braces or worry about food getting stuck and causing tooth decay.

How to Start Invisalign Treatment

There are several steps required to begin Invisalign treatment as follows:

  1. Schedule an initial consultation with our dental clinic. During this consultation appointmentt you will meet with your dentist to discuss if Invisalign would be an effective treatment option. At the consultation, you will receive a treatment plan outlining the anticipated time and costs.
  2. Get fitted for your aligners. An impression of your teeth will be made or we will use our proprietary 3-D imaging application to create the image of your teeth for your aligners.
  3. Schedule a follow-up visit to get your aligners. It takes a little time before the custom-made aligners will be ready. Once they are ready, you return and your dentist will verify they fit correctly and you will begin wearing them on a daily basis.
  4. Schedule return visits, as needed. Throughout your treatment process, return visits are required to ensure you treatment is progressing correctly.
  5. Use Invisalign until you achieve your desired results. Based on your goals, you will continue to replace aligners every two weeks until the end of the treatment period.
