The Different Steps to Follow for Invisalign TreatmentWhen you want to improve your smile by eliminating gaps in between teeth and straightening crooked teeth, one viable solution is Invisalign. This orthodontic treatment requires several different steps to help you achieve your new smile. To help you better understand the processes, we have broken down the treatment into several basic steps as follows:

Step 1: Schedule an initial consultation with our dental office.

You need an experienced and knowledgeable dentist that is trained to provide Invisalign treatment, which you can find at Kennedy Square Dental. During your initial consultation, your dentist will discuss your objectives, what your goals are, and whether Invisalign is the best solution to fit your needs.

Step 2: Develop and create your own custom Invisalign treatment schedule and plan.

If you decide after you initial consultation Invisalign is the right choice to meet your smile needs, the next step is to create your treatment schedule and plan. This could require a follow-up visit or may be able to be done at the same visit as the initial consultation.

Your dentist will either use a 3D scanner to take digital impressions of your teeth or use a tradition method and take physical impressions. Next, the dentists determines the exact treatment process including the precise movement of the teeth to the desired locations and an estimate of how long treatment will take. You may even be shown a preview of how your teeth will move and your new smile.

Step 3: Receive your clear Invisalign aligners.

Your dentist will order your Invisalign aligners and notify you once these arrive. During this visit, your dentist will verify the aligners fit correctly and teach you the proper aligner use, care, and storage.

It is essential that you wear your aligners for as many hours each day as possible, except when eating, drinking, brushing and flossing. You will even sleep while wearing the aligners. About every two weeks you will replace the current set of aligners with a new set.

Step 4: Schedule follow-up visits with your dentist.

Periodically throughout the treatment process, your dentist will want you to come in for a visit to monitor your progress. The purpose of these visits is to ensure your teeth are moving gradually as originally estimated into their new positions and the treatment is on track. At each visit your dentist will review your current progress, so you can see exactly how far you have come to achieving your new smile.

Step 5: End of treatment and post-treatment care.

Once your treatment is over and you have obtained your new smile, you will want to follow any post-treatment care your dentist recommends. For instance, many patients benefit from wearing a retainer at night while they sleep to help keep their teeth aligned in their current positions.
